Get started with PIC
Follow these steps to verify the download, capture your screen, edit the image, and save it.
Download from GitHub1. Check requirements
PIC requires Windows 10 version 2004 or later; Windows 11 is recommended. Run pic.exe directly—no installer is required.
2. Verify the file, then run it
The hash below identifies the v0.2.0 asset updated on the date shown. Do not compare it with a different build. The executable is unsigned, so Windows may display a publisher warning. Run it only if the hash matches and you trust the publisher.

3. Capture the screen
- Launch PIC and choose region, window capture, current monitor or all monitors.
- For window capture, point at a window and click or press Enter. Escape or right-click cancels. Minimized or hidden windows cannot be selected; protected or unavailable windows report an error.
- A normal capture starts immediately. Choose the delayed-capture command when you need a timer.
- Review or change global keyboard shortcuts in Settings.
4. Edit and save
After capture, use annotations, shapes, text, mosaic, selection tools and undo/redo. Drag an existing text area to move it; moves can also be undone. Save or export PNG, or copy the image to the clipboard. Deleting from capture history removes only the selected capture; deleting the active capture opens the next one (or the previous one for the last entry), and other captures and edits are preserved.
5. Language and saving on exit
The default UI is English. Settings also offers Korean, Simplified Chinese, Japanese and Russian. Closing hides PIC to the tray. Actual exit reviews each unsaved capture: Save, Don’t save, Discard all and exit, or Back to Pic. A save failure shows an error and keeps the window open.
Troubleshooting
- If a shortcut does not work, close other screen-capture apps and check for a shortcut conflict in PIC Settings.
- If you enable run-at-login, keep the executable in a folder that will not be moved.
- Run only one PIC frontend at a time; another frontend may conflict over global shortcuts.
Review screenshots for sensitive information before sharing, and capture only screens you are authorized to use.
